FOR SALE: Baby Parts

“Planned Parenthood” is the largest provider of abortions in the United States. Recent undercover video sting operations have recorded Planned Parenthood abortion providers casually and callously discussing the harvesting and sale of aborted baby parts. One of the abortion providers discusses the various extraction techniques that are best for preserving sellable organs and other “fetal tissue.” She casually discusses these things while eating a salad and drinking wine. Another provider haggles with the presumed buyers over the price of various baby parts. She even quips that she would like to “have a Lamborghini,” implying that she wanted to get as much money for the baby parts as feasible. One person compared these clinics to “baby chop shops,” which is a reference to shops that disassemble stolen cars and sell the parts on the black market.

As detestable, barbaric and inhumane as this practice is, it actually comes as no surprise to observers of human nature. The acceptance of abortion paved the way for the acceptance of fetal tissue harvesting. One evil practice has led to another. If the baby itself is a mere “tissue mass” with no inherent life value, then neither are its parts of any inherent value. This would seem logical if not for the flaw in the original premise. An unborn baby is far more than a mere collection of cells and tissue — it is a human being. From conception it possesses its own unique DNA which contains all of the necessary instructions for its growth, development and personal identity. The heart begins to beat at around 6 weeks and is soon detectable thereafter. It should be noted that abortion providers such as those mentioned above are harvesting fetal tissue from 12 week babies and older! Through sonogram imaging, 12-week babies are easily recognizable as little humans. David said, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:13-16). He spoke of his development in his mother’s womb, and he said that God was mindful of him in that unborn condition. Perhaps those who have ignored the Bible will at least be influenced by this newly possible imaging of the unborn, and perhaps they will then reconsider the words of David and appreciate their power and accuracy.

The only distinction that the Bible makes between a baby in the womb and a baby out of the womb is its physical location. Genesis 25:22 says that “children” struggled together in Rebekah’s womb (Jacob and Esau). This same Hebrew word is used of other “children” out of the womb. Upon hearing the greeting of Mary, Elizabeth’s “baby leaped in her womb” (Luke 1:41). The same word for “baby” that is here used of the baby in the womb is also used for the “baby in the manger” (Luke 2:12). The Bible makes no difference in value of life between the two. As the baby Jesus was no mere “mass of tissue” in the manger, John was no mere “mass of tissue” in Elizabeth’s womb. People should rise up in opposition to the godless practices of abortion and the selling of fetal tissue.
